Good Taste Awards recognizes food and drink that people genuinely enjoy. Products are tasted without their brand, packaging, price or reputation, so the decision begins with the experience in the mouth.
The first response
One direct question
Each assessor first answers independently:
How much do you enjoy the taste experience of this product as presented?
Good Taste Awards calls this Overall Liking. It is the primary basis of the result. Aroma, flavour, texture, balance and finish help explain why the product was or was not enjoyable; they cannot replace the assessor's honest response.
Panel composition
Consumers hold the larger voice
The majority of every panel is made up of screened potential consumers and food enthusiasts who are relevant to the product. Professionals also take part, bringing category knowledge and precise sensory language.
Every eligible assessor has one equally weighted liking response. Professional experience helps the panel understand the product; it does not make one person's enjoyment count more than another's.

Exceptional taste. Worth making a special effort to experience.
A higher star is supported by a broader group of assessors. Every star belongs to the exact product assessed; it is not a ranking of producers and it does not make a health, safety, nutrition, sustainability, price or value claim.

Useful after every valid initial assessment
Every assessed product receives something useful
Every product with a valid initial assessment receives a considered comment, including products that do not receive a star. The comment describes what shaped enjoyment: what worked, where the experience lost its appeal and how the flavour, aroma or texture developed.
The comment is not advertising and does not speculate about causes the panel could not observe. It turns the tasting evidence into language that a producer can understand.
